Three-channel installation at the Contemporary Art Center Las Vegas in 2008 ADVENTURE NON-FICTION: Tracking the Void, 2007 Digital video, silent, running time 7 minutes, 18 seconds continuous loop. Video Excerpt >> ADVENTURE NON-FICTION: Tracking the Void presents a triptych of images of the Las Vegas landscape that is circular, hollow and seemingly endless. Each of the three channels is a distinct sample of Las Vegas recorded in a continuous tracking shot. From left to right: A forward and reverse rotation around the corner of the abandoned “Queen of Hearts” in downtown Las Vegas, future site of City Hall. Central is the Las Vegas Strip, circa 2004, an endless stream of visitors and architectures many since mutated or erased. And finally, the ghost of the darkened “Aztec” never a name it held formally but one fitting for this “locals casino,” “farmersmarket,” cast-off hiding an interior city of “homeless” once owned by Michael Jackson. The intent of the project was to create the sensation and emptiness of a void with images from one of the most mediated and photographed cities in the world albeit juxtaposing vantage points of the city. |
